On the cover of The Slits’ 1979 album Cut, Viv Albertine, Tessa Pollitt, and Ari Up stand shirtless, covered in mud, exuding a look of defiance. It’s a complicated thing to look at an image, to consider what it represents and how it circulates. Lis Rhodes makes films. The Slits made punk music. Elizabeth Zvonar makes collages and sculptures.
