The studies of space, particularly in the realm of sculpture and the built environment, have arguably shifted to the role of the photograph and the conceptions of reality and the sensation of the immediate past it creates. The photograph is certainly both an object for constructing and a material/medium for transformation in the work of Leslie Hewitt. Hewitt’s engagement with time and the representations of such is motivated by the simple desire to explore the fullness of the experience of looking (observing) by limiting and at times ignoring visual convention.
