Independent arts publishing is under pressure—financially, politically, and structurally. What does it take not just to build these platforms, but to keep them alive?

Join us for a public roundtable bringing together leaders of publishing initiatives working across Canada and the US to share how independent platforms for art writing are shaped, challenged, and sustained today. From navigating shrinking resources to resisting censorship and rethinking audiences, this conversation opens up the conditions—and possibilities—of publishing now.

The panel features Dr. Kemi Adeyemi (Director, The Black Embodiments Studio), Sky Goodden (Publisher, Momus), and Molly Kleiman (Director, Triple Canopy), and is moderated by Tiana Reid, (critic and co-editor of Pinko).

Introductory remarks by Lauren Wetmore (Artistic Director of Programs , Momus) will frame the discussion alongside the broader To Build and Sustain initiative, including a 2025 residency and the Momus Convening for independent publishers, offering the public a window into the questions, urgencies, and solidarities emerging across the field.

The discussion will be followed by a Q&A and a cash-bar reception with panelists and convening participants.
